Summer of 84 (2018)

Today marks the anniversary for the Summer of 84. Although it originally premiered on January 22, 2018 at the Sundance Film Festival, it had an official U.S. release on August 10th. During my last trip to Vancouver, I took the opportunity to visit some of the filming locations.

The film opens with Davey biking up the the cul-de-sac which is the primary setting for the majority of the movie. On his left is this house at 5037 197a Street in Langley, British Columbia. The owners of this house came out and chatted with me and were so warm and welcoming, thank you for making my visit so nice!

On his left, he bikes past the houses at 5028, 5018, 5008, and 5006 197a Street.

He stops at Wayne Mackey’s house at 5027 197a Street.

Dave lives across the street at 5002 197a Street.

I lightened up a lot of the evening shots as it is a very dark film.

A lot of the action takes place in the neighborhood.

Woody lives at this house at 5008 197a Street.

The owner of the house was kind enough to let me take pictures of the backyard.

The shed hasn’t changed at all. They did add a section to the bottom of the house so it would appear to have a basement, which it does not in real life.

A couple more backyard shots. The first is of the fence. The second one is the back of the house but I didn’t go far enough down to show the window they break in near the end.

The bowling alley is located at 4429 Kingsway in Burnaby, British Columbia.

They bike by the library at 2248 McAllister Avenue in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. (I did not have my screenshots with me this day, so not very good screen-matches. The last shot is Google Streetview to give you a better idea of the location)

The hardware store is located at 2275 Elgin Avenue in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. (I did not have my screenshots with me this day, so not very good screen-matches. The last shot is Google Streetview to give you a better idea of the location)

This abduction takes place at 2239 Hawthorne Avenue in Port Coquitlam. (I wasn’t able to visit this location, but using Google Streetview for reference here.)

The police department was shot at4091 McConnell Court in Burnaby, British Columbia. (I didn’t visit this spot, but using photos I found online for reference.)

The storage unit is located at 3555 E 5th Avenue in Vancouver. (I wasn’t able to visit this location, so Google Streetview is provided here for reference.)

The Pier Beautification Project party is located at Rocky Point Park located at 2800 Murray Street in Port Moody, British Columbia.

Back to the cul-de-sac for the final scene…

A very big THANK YOU to the kind neighbors on this street for your hospitality!
