As part of my Texas Chainsaw Massacre location series, we are now at "The Beginning" which was a prequel to the remake for those following along. While retaining many of the locations and cinematography from the 2003 film, this didn't quite get it right.in story or pacing. As this is not really one of my favorites, this post may seem pretty light.
First up we have some establishing shots of the slaughterhouse. As they never go back to this location again in the film, I have a feeling they just took some unused shots from the 2003 film for this. It is located at 2211 West 2nd Street in Taylor, Texas.
A young Luda May walks back to the house, the same used in the 2003 remake, located at 901 County Rd 336 in Granger, Texas. I've included various shots from throughout the film of the house here:
The windmill is located at the end of the driveway of the house.
The Lee Bros. Meats building is a different slaughterhouse from the 2003 version. It is located at 101 NW River Road in Martindale, Texas.
This shot is right by the driveway to the house.
The group stops at the same gas station used in the 2003 film. It is located at 18726 Cameron Road in Manor, Texas.
The Cele Community Center sign remained unchanged for filming.
I wasn't able to get into the backyard area enough to screen-match the shots, but you can see a few of the same sheds in the background here.
It's pretty obviouswhy Leatherface would want Matt Bomer's pretty face. Plus, a not-so-subtle foreshadowing of what's going to happen as he looks into the mirror.
