Today marks the 50th anniversary of The Towering Inferno. This was a great time for disaster movies as Earthquake was released a month earlier. Much of the building seen in the film was a big miniature shot at Malibu Creek State Park, however several scenes were shot in downtown San Francisco.

The Simmons house was located at 2898 Vallejo Street in the Pacific Heights area.
The lower part of the building and entrance scenes were shot at 555 California Street. Not coincidentally, San Andreas would use this same building four decades later.
The building across the street is new.
