The Stand

The Stand (2020)

I originally covered original 1994 mini-series for Stephen King’s The Stand, which was mostly shot in Utah. The new version is just now beginning on CBS All Access with mixed reviews, but I’ll give it a chance. Obviously I’m not traveling right now but recognized many of the locations and wanted to share with fans.

UPDATE 2024: I finally got to some locations for myself recently and updated the page:

Frannie’s house is located at 2837 Gordon Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia. The very nice owners were kind enough to let me take pictures in the backyard.

This is the alley behind the house…

These are the small alleyways and paths behind Frannie’s house…

I recognized this area immediately as I covered a house in the same neighborhood for TRON: Legacy.

Harold crashes in between the houses at 2810 and 2818 O’Hara Lane.

Back to Frannie’s house….

Back to Crescent Beach where Harold crashed his bike…

We never actually see the front of Frannie’s house, but in this scene Harold pulls up to the driveway…

The boardwalk was shot at Steveston Fisherman’s Wharft in Steveston, British Columbia. This area has been used in many productions including Scary Movie, Bates Motel, and It’s A Wonderful Knife.

Harold’s house is located at 2850 McKenzie Avenue in Surrey, however his garage appears to be Frannie’s house or the house next to it.

These scenes were shot at Moncton Street and Second Avenue in Richmond, British Columbia. These are my photographs as this same location was used in Scary Movie.

Later, Harold and Frannie leave town from the same corner….

Although it is supposed to be Boulder, Colorado, this was shot at Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Of course, when I visited, it was completely demolished as they are readying renovations!

Below are some Google streetview images to show how it looked before renovations began….

This was shot on Scotch Pine Avenue and Copper Beach Place in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Larry’s apartment is at 1086 Bute Street in Vancovuer.

Mother Abigail’s house is a façade built on a dead end next to the house at 4410 47a Street in Delta, British Columbia.

Larry’s billboard is between 325 and 333 Cambie Street in Vancouver.

This New York City scene was shot mostly on West Pender and Howe Streets.

I didn’t get all the shots during my visit, so below are a few Google streetview comparisons…

Harold’s new house is at 146 E Windsor Road in North Vancouver.

Stu and Frannie’s house is at 780 8th St E in North Vancouver.

Larry’s house is at 740 8th St E in North Vancouver.

Nadine’s house is at 1496 Marguerite Street in Coquitlam,. The owner was kind enough to let me get pictures from the driveway and porch.

The next scene was shot at the Seaforth Armoury, located at 1650 Burrard Street in Vancouver. It was shot from behind a gated area, which I could not access, but here is the front of it.

The remaining spots are locations I was not able to visit, but provided comparison photos found on Google for comparisons:

The baseball stadium is at 4601 Ontario Street in Vancouver.

The amphitheater is at 6380 Stadium Road in Vancouver. This is right next to the stadium used in Final Destination 3.

Several scenes were shot at 3405 Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby. Of course, when I visited the entire campus had been demolished! Below are some old streetview shots.

As they leave for Vegas, they start here on Patterson Road in Ashcroft.

On their trek to Vegas, they walk through the corner at 4th St & Brink Street in Ashcroft.

The pharmacy was at 33236 1st Avenue in Mission.

Greg Kinnear and Alexander Skarsgård
