Garbage Day!

Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 (1987)

A few years ago, I decided to track down the locations for the infamous 'garbage day' scene in Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. As a completest, of course, I had to do the rest of the series which I wasn't too familiar with at the time, but became a good set-jetting journey.  As most fans know, the sequel is largely made up of flashbacks to the first film, but this entry will just focus on new locations.  While the first film was shot in Utah, the sequel was filmed mostly in Sierra Madre, California.

In one of first new flashbacks, we see Ricky's adoption day at city hall.  This is located at 232 West Sierra Madre Boulevard in Sierra Madre, California.

The next flashback show Ricky shopping with his mother.  They are walking by a store around 26 North Baldwin Avenue in Sierra Madre.  This area has been used extensively in many movies including Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Halloween II, Halloween III, Psycho III, Return of the Living Dead Part 2, and The Fog.

Here come the nuns!

Poor Ricky.  Here they are standing in front of the sotre at 40 North Baldwin Avenue in Sierra Madre.

The cemetery scene was shot at the Pioneer Cemetery located at 601 East Sierra Madre Boulevard in Sierra Madre.  This was the same cemetery used in the original Halloween.

This shot is not too far from where Judith Myers' missing gravestone was located in Halloween.

Ricky is taking out garbage at the restaurant he works at in the next scene and is the back of an actual restaurant.  This building has had major renovation since the time of filming, but is located at 44 North Baldwin Avenue in Sierra Madre.

The alley behind the restaurant looks about the same.  The building on the right is the back of a auto mechanic shop at 54 North Baldwin Avenue.  The front of this shop was also featured in Return of the Living Dead Part 2.

The park is right next to the cemetery seen earlier in the film and is located at 611 East Sierra Madre Boulevard.

One of of Ricky and Jennifer's dates, they ride through this tunnel located next to the Griffith Park Observatory.  You think with all the times I have been to this location I would have better shots, but maybe on the next trip!

Okay, here we are at the iconic scene in the film! I will split this scene into many segment to give you as much detail as possible.  This scene was the whole reason I started looking for Silent Night Deadly Night locations and was so excited when I found it.  This street is also in Sierra Madre, just a block over from the cemtery!

Jennifer and Ricky walk by this house in the background located at 431 Santa Anita Court.  As you can see, this house has undergone some renovation.

Chip is working on his car in front of this house at 441 Santa Anita Court. The owners still have a small shrubbery garden in the same spot.

Still in front of the same house, the tree has grown a bit since filming.

Uh oh!   The corner house behind Jennifer is at 101 Colony Drive.

These police are fast!

Here Ricky is still in front of the house at 441 Santa Anita Court.

As Ricky walks down the street, the camera moves around him to show the house at 101 Colony Drive in the background.

The curious neighbor that gets shot is at the house located at 100 Colony Drive.

Ricky continues to walk down the street and by this house at 451 Santa Anita Court.

Garbage Day!  And here we are at 'the' house, located at 461 Santa Anita Court. The house and fence are all about the same!

Ricky continues down Santa Anita Court and shoots at the approaching car.

The car crashes and rolls over in front of this house at 472 Santa Anita Court.

Ricky turns and is back in front of the house at 101 Colony Drive.

And finally we are at Mother Superior's house.  This was difficult to find as there are not too many clues, but I figured this was in the area as well and tracked it down at 159 West Montecito Avenue in Sierra Madre.  And as you can see, it was 'Garbage Day' which blocked my shot that day, but felt it was appropriate for this movie. :)

This is a great house and is listed as a historical landmark.
