My favorite Alexander Payne movie, CITIZEN RUTH, is celebrating it’s anniversary today. Originally released on December 13, 1996, Payne shot the film in his hometown (and my town!) of Omaha, Nebraska.
The opening scene was shot at 2454 Harney Street in Omaha, however it was only shot from the back from Farnam Street. There is now a Holiday Inn Express blocking this view as you can see in the last pic.
Her brother lived at 411 Hickory Street in Omaha, Nebraska. My friend used to live in a building at the bottom of this hill.
The pharmacy was at 4949 Underwood Avenue in Omaha. This building has been many things and is currently a real estate office.
This alley is right behind the builidng.
Memorial Park is located at 6005 Underwood Avenue in Omaha.
The pro-life clinic was located at 8316 Blondo Street in Omaha. Unfortunately this burned down a few years ago.
The inside didn’t change much!
The clinic was located at 200 South 29th Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The convenience store is at 715 South 24th Street in Omaha.
This is at the intersection at 51st & Center Streets in Omaha.
As you can see, many of the silos and grain bins were demolished after filming, as well as a lot of the surrounding buildings and bowling alley.
