I can't believe it has been 30 years since April Fool's Day. I'm a big fan of the film, but always wished I could see the original ending, which I believe they actually filmed as you can find production pictures that were not in the released film. Fans can also read the ending in the tie-in novelization of the film. While recently visiting British Columbia, I went over to Victoria to check out one of the locations.
The only spot I was able actually to get to on this trip was the dock from which the group leaves for their fool-filled weekend. The dock is at the Brentwood Bay terminal in Victoria, British Columbia. Although the dock has been updated and modernized, there are a few buildings in the background that still exist.
They ferry actually goes across to Mill Bay terminal, but I did not visit that location. From what I could tell, it is barely recognizable from when they shot the film three decades ago.
I wasn't able to get to the "St. John Estate" but I tried. Unfortunately, it is a private residence. While I did take the long, narrow road to get there, it was gated off. The location is actually the Dunmora Estate and is located at 8100 McPhail Road in Victoria, British Columbia. Some estate pictures can be found on the internet, which I included a few below.
FINALLY go to meet the incredible Amy Steel - she never ages!!
