Milk (2008)

I feel like Milk is an underrated film documenting the life and death of Harvey Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant. It seems like Harvey is not talked about much anymore, but he was a true pioneer for gay rights and should never be forgotten. The film was shot almost entirely in San Francisco.

Milk was first released in a limited run on November 26, 2008, but did not widely until January 30, 2009. I went to many of these locations a decade ago, but finally got them published here.

The opening scene was shot in front of 577 Castro Street in San Francisco.

The Castro Theatre is located at 429 Castro Street.

Harvey opened his camera shop at 575 Castro Street.

Here is the front of the the storefront; the second picture as it looked at the time.

Here they are walking up the 400 block of Castro Street…

…to the corner of Castro and Market Streets.

This scene was shot at 42 Sansome Street.

Several scenes throughout the film are shot at San Francisco City Hall at 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place.

As most people know, these are the same steps seen at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
