Los Angeles

Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

The opening scene is supposed to take place in Detroit, but this alley is in Los Angeles. I didn’t revisit this location but used some of my previous photos from the area. It is across from 1242 (then 1248) Palmetto Street near Downtown Los Angeles.

The apartment is at 685 Witmer Street in Los Angeles. Also, I haven’t gotten back to this spot for this film, but used some shots I took a decade ago for The Purge: Anarchy.

During the montage, there really is not too much recognizable left on Rodeo Drive, but this Beverly Hills sign and the Beverly Hills Hotel sign are still recognizable.

I didn’t revisit the Biltmore Hotel for this film yet, so used some of my previous photos. The hotel is located at 506 South Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles.

The art gallery location was around 9680 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. That building and most of the area has been heavily renovated but a few buildings in the background can still be matched up.

Axel is thrown out of this office at 3699 Wilshire Boulevard.

The police department is located at 455 North Rexford Drive in Beverly Hills.

Same location at night…

The “warehouse” is at 600 Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles. After this, they go to the customs ware house at 6101 West Imperial Highway by LAX.

Victor’s mansion is at 609 E Channel Road in Santa Monica.

They set up fake traffic lights for this scene at the corner of South Hudson Avenue and 4th Street in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. I’m not sure why no one else seemed to find this spot as it was pretty obvious to me as it was next to Francis’ house in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.

The Harrow Club is at 551 South Hill Avenue in Pasadena. They would use this same building in Beverly Hills Cop II.

Back to the art gallery….

And back to the police department….

Some better shots of the warehouse during the day…

They sneak into this side gate back at Victor’s mansion.

This is just south of the mansion at the corner of East Channel and Dryad Roads in Santa Monica.

Back up arrives at the mansion…
