The Karate Kid was released on June 22, 1984. I’ve been to most of the Los Angeles locations, a few shared below.
The South Seas apartments are actually called that in reality and can be found at 19223 Saticoy Street in Reseda, California. These pictures are a mix of photos taken over a couple decades!
The back is mostly the same, however there are now apartments where the adjacent field was located.
The beach party is located at the often-filmed location, Leo Carillo State Beach at 35000 West Pacify Coast Highway in Malibu, California.
This spot is nearly identical except for some updated steps.
The school has made appearances in Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge and Summer School. It is located at 5607 Capistrano in Woodland Hills, California.
If you have a chance to get in and take pictures, I highly recommend it.
The fields behind the school are mostly the same.
The restaurant with the dojo across the street was on the corner of Cloverdale Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.
Later, the dojo is located at 5223 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood.
Ali’s house is located at 4072 Alonzo Avenue in Encino, California.
Golf N’ Stuff is located at 10555 Firestone Boulevard in Norwalk, California. The sign is no longer on the pole, but sitting out on a patio.
As you can see, the water slides are long gone.
Here are a few shots of the grounds. I was surprised at the size of all the mini-golf courses.
This is still the restaurant area…
“I really like your car, Mrs. Laruso!”
Always great to see a location that takes pride in the films.
Ralph Macchio as Daniel Laruso.
William Zabka as Johnny.
Randee Heller as Lucille Laruso.
Martin Kove as Kreese.
Ron Thomas as Bobby.
Rob Garrison as Tommy. He recently passed away at the age of 59.
Larry B. Scott as Jerry.
Peter Jason as the soccer coach.
I have been working on the Los Angeles locations for COBRA KAI, stay tuned!
